The Prize Winning Family
William Henry Davis, painter of 19th century art, was born in 1783 in the Royal Borough of Chelsea, London.
The naive artist exhibited his first animal painting at the age of 20 and proceeded to have a very successful career in the industry – becoming a well known name by 1818 and considered an ‘established animal painter’ by the age of 40.
William Henry Davis was 58 at the time he completed The Prize Winning Family and did so at the same time as creating commissioned naïve animal paintings for esteemed agricultural publications.
